In the Medieval times, India witnessed many social evils. It was also backward culturally and politically. Lack of Education was one of the major reasons. It was then realized by Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati had that salvation laid in educating the masses. So he contributed a lot to empower and enlighten the people of Indian society before attainment of Samadhi.

Later, Lala Lajpat Rai, Pt. Gurudutt Vidyarthy and Mahatma Hans Raj – a group of socially-oriented and enlightened Arya Samajis took initiative of reforming the Indian society. They decided to establish an Education Trust to run schools and colleges to perpetuate the memory to this great man and his teachings. Thus, came into existence the DAV College Trust and Management Society.

In befitting memory of this great Saint, the first DAV Institution (DAV School) was established at Lahore (now in Pakistan) on June 1, 1885 with Mahatma Hans Raj as its honorary Headmaster. The life of Mahatma Hans Raj has been a saga of dedicated service and missionary spirit. At present, there are around 700 institutions (which include more than 500 schools) working throughout India making DAV as the biggest non-government educational organisation in the country.

In these institutions, knowledge of science, technology and social sciences blended with Vedic philosophy of Vedas is imparted in order to build personality of the children in the true spirit of the teachings of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati. For more information,visit www.davcmc.net.in
